When an artist has an idea, and she sketches it out on a piece of paper to get it out of her head and into the physical world to get a better look at it, she gets to “see” that idea in a different way … which often changes the idea in her head … which leads to a new sketch … which changes the idea … (see the pattern?)
My MKMMA journey has been the same sort of process with the ADDED layer of having two identities analyzing the ideas produced and making suggestions. Who? OBM and NBM (Old Blueprint Me and New Blueprint Me). Now these two have decidedly different assessments of things like, for example, a DMP. OBM thinks once its down on paper, it’s done and you should make it fit. You wrote it – it must be true. Live it! NBM has taught me that it’s not a matter of “get it right and be done”, it’s a matter of trying it on (in this case I’m referring to the soul-fit of my definite purpose in life – the oxygen for my soul that propels me into my future with so much inner glee that I’m giddy to be on my way) and taking it to the tailor for alterations if it doesn’t feel right.
That’s where I am this week. First Haanel writes in Part Thirteen’s introduction: “We have come to know that thinking is a spiritual process, that vision and imagination precede action and event, that the day of the dreamer has come.” I like that. I’m a dreamer! Then I start thinking about the Franklin quote (at the end of Part 13), “Increase in me that wisdom Which discovers my truest interest, Strengthen my resolution To perform that which wisdom dictates.” I have the ability – no, the obligation – to investigate and discover my truest interest (DMP) and refine it until it sings to me!
I’ve had lots of ideas swirling in my head. I’ve read and read and read my DMP, with OBM saying, “Read it enough and it will feel right. You’ve just gotta keep reading.” Then NBM says, “If it doesn’t fit, it doesn’t fit!” Write it down again. Play with it, adjust it. Tailor it. It’s OK! You’re allowed! You’re SUPPOSED TO DO THAT! It’s called being an observer. Being conscious. Being the creator of your own life. Being a lion and not a sheep! (Mandino)”
So … back to the drawing board! Then a new read. Then, the drawing board. Then, out loud. This is fun! This is my life. This is MY life. I’ve found a new medium in which to excel as an artist! How cool is THAT?

Deb, I love the analogies you have used to express yourself. I too am rewriting my DMP, now for the 4th time I believe. As I am growing and learning, I keep redefining! Thanks for sharing. Its nice to know we are not alone
You are very creative with he way you explain your journey I feel very privileged to read your blogs. Thank you. Happy New Year.
Wow! what a marvelous post! I love your analogy of the artist with and idea and how you drew the correlation to recreating DMP! I have done the same in some small respects, not a complete re-write but changed some of the information. It sounds to me like you have a handle on the process and are prepared to carry this process into the future. Great Job! I tweeted your message as it moved me to do so!
Deb, I love the way you expressed the changes from OBM to NBM. Keep drawing the NBM!
