I like lists. Words on lists jumpstart my imagination. I have two lists to ponder today.
The Life I Have
- Limited
- Unconscious
- Routine
- Unfulfilling
- Difficult
- Out of my control
The Life I Want
- Expansive
- Alive
- Limitless
- Impactful
- Effortless
- Self-directed

One might think these two lists have no connection. They seem so different. And yet, they do have a definite connection. The very thing that creates the life I have now is the very SAME thing that creates the life I want. That “very same thing” is – thoughts!
My thoughts in the past have created the life I’m living right now, and the thoughts I’m THINKING, right now, are creating my FUTURE! Does that mean my future is going to be just like my present and my past?
Maybe yes. Maybe no.
What makes the difference?
The difference makers are the type, quality, character, focus, and clarity of my thoughts. According to Napoleon Hill in his iconic “Think and Grow Rich” book:
“The dominating thoughts of my mind reproduce themselves in outward, physical action and transform themselves into physical reality. Therefore I concentrate my thoughts for thirty minutes daily upon the task of thinking of the person I intend to become, thereby creating a clear mental picture of that person.”
If I continue to dwell on lack, bills, ill health, discouragement, failure, frustration, self-pity, or self-doubt, those are the things that will reproduce themselves and transform themselves into my physical reality. Eesh!
If I choose instead to create a clear mental picture of the future “me” as I want her to be, and I choose to create a clear mental picture of the life I intend to live, well, then that is what will appear in my life. My imagination is not only vivid it is also powerful. So is yours.
There is a keyword necessary in this whole equation. The word is action. I can imagine, dream, visualize, plot, plan, and scheme indefinitely in my head. Yet, if I don’t take action, if I don’t actively engage those thoughts in my life, nothing happens.
Nothing changes.
Wallace D. Wattles says, In “The Science of Getting Rich”, “By thought, the thing you want is brought to you; by action you receive it.” “Put your whole mind into present action.”

I’ve set the vision of my True North, plotted the trail, and I am walking it. Every day. How about you? What’s your True North?
Enjoy the journey,
Deb
