I don’t wear a watch, so this week’s MKMMA suggestion to tape a compass over my watch to remind myself not to be a slave to the clock – and instead keep myself heading true north – presented a challenge.
I DO, however, wear a beautiful bracelet which my artist daughter Kara made. I love the complex aqua terra jasper stones and the delicate silver chain. The balance is off, though, causing the stones to slide around the side of my wrist so I rarely see them.
This week, while looking for compasses to scatter around my worldview, I found a small charm in the jewelry section of the hobby store. Perfect! I attached it to my bracelet. The stones still slid. I reattached it in a different location, countering the weight of the beads, grounding the bracelet, and voila! I can see the stones – and I made a “life lesson” connection as well. Can you see it?
By grounding and balancing myself like the bracelet – focusing on what’s truly my center – I am able to constantly see the beauty around me (for which I always say ‘thank you’) and keep myself on course. I now have a visual touchstone – just like the other links we are starting to make for ourselves – that constantly reminds me where to focus. And … it connects me to my daughter! (big smile)

Hi Deb! Isn’t it nice to know where you’re headed and can relax and enjoy the journey without having to constantly be reminded of the amount of time which elapses with each movement of the second hand?
I enjoyed reading your blog. Great that you’ve made a new linkage with the compass. Have a fantastic journey.

I love it!!!! You are so creative, Deb! What a beautiful and tangible connection to an important marker of successful living, and you also just might have come up with a product you can offer to your fellow sojourners! You ROCK!!!
Great idea, and what an awesome bracelet. That is a fantastic analogy for keeping balance in your life, like it!
